J:Kenzo

DJ/producer J:Kenzo is a sought-after player within the dubstep scene, not only as an artist but also as a founder of Soul Shakerz Records. Born and raised in Kent (South East England), Kenzo was highly influenced by the sounds of both jungle and garage and took up DJ duties way back in 1995. In 2005, he was introduced to the emerging dubstep scene and decided it was time to get in the studio and start putting his ideas to his own music, making his production debut in 2007 on Soul Shakerz with a release entitled Tekno Bass. He has seen his tracks played by many of the top DJ’s in the scene, including Caspa and Skream, and has had the production “Cosmo” feature on the latest Ministry of Sound CD mixed by The Cut Up Boys. Releases on Dub Police, Argon Records, 2nd Drop and his own Soul Shakerz imprint have made his productions available worldwide.

BAKIR

Ric Baker, better known as Bakir, has been involved at the forefront of the bass music scene in North America since 2008. With the formation of the San Francisco based live dubstep group The Spit Brothers, his solo productions and the founding of Dubs Alive Records, Bakir has been an influential player as a producer, performer, and label boss. He and The Spit Brothers were named one of S.F. Weekly’s Dubstep Ambassadors and have been featured performers at SXSW. His TUBA NYC imprint established in 2010 has amassed an impressive group of artists on its roster, including J:Kenzo, TRUTH, DJG, Compa, Moldy, Daega Sound, XI, AxH, Antiserum, The Spit Brothers, and Prism. The catalog is defined by its deep, forward thinking sound and its constant quality. Now based in Brooklyn, Bakir’s own productions are defined by his love of sub bass, percussion, and dark atmospherics that are further informed by his background as a jazz trumpet player and composer. He has releases on Interchill, Crux, Dubs Alive, TUBA, Brap Dem, Full Melt, Voltage, and Kush Arora Productions.

Boston-based producer Prism (Dave Hanson) has been gaining a lot of notoriety lately. His release on Chef’s Sub Freq Recordings saw heavy play from Skream on BBC Radio 1 and was featured on iTunes’s new and noteworthy singles. ‘Two Hearts” was awarded Best Dubstep Tune of the Month in Mixmag. Other noteworthy praise comes from heavyweight producers like Mala, Om Unit, 2000F, Quest and Von D amongst others. After a release in April with French label Lutetia Delight, Prism’s upcoming releases include a 12” with TUBA Records accompanied by a menacingly dark remix from Compa in June as well as an EP with Gantz on Subaltern in late summer.

ROZI

In 2002, ROZI moved to San Francisco from the madness of his native Los Angeles to pursue a path in music. Guitar in hand, Justin opened himself up to as many styles of music as the Bay Area had to offer. During his time spent studying Jazz Guitar and Composition at San Francisco State University, Justin met many talented musicians and played in various groups around San Francisco, many of whom incorporated electronic elements into their performances. His musical direction took a dramatic turn when he discovered the possibilities of making music with Pro Tools and Ableton Live in 2007. By this time, Rozi had already been exploring various dance music styles including drum and bass, techno, house, IDM, and dubstep. Today, Justin maintains a relentless schedule in the studio turning out tracks with a keen eye for detail. He also actively collaborates with Bakir.
