David Starfire‘s full length LP, Bollyhood Bass, is one of the best and most original albums out this year. He is a producer, composer, multi-instrumentalist and DJ based in Los Angeles and San Francisco. David has remixed some amazing tracks like ‘Koli Stance‘ by Sub Swara, giving it some serious tribal dubstep infusion. His heritage is Creole and he follows in the footsteps of his grandfather, Oscar Rouzan, who was a famous horn player in New Orleans and played with the likes of Paul Simon, Pete Fountain, Al Hirt and numerous other great jazz artists. David’s family background is also rooted in the art of Voodoo and rumored to be related to Marie Laveau, the Voodoo queen of Louisiana. As we close out 2010, I share with you this gem that has been a staple in my DJ Sets, a noticed favorite of the hoopers/spinners, and consistently inducing patrones into gyrating intensely on the dance floor.
