North Coast Music Festival 2015 - Preview

Summer may be coming to an end but Chicago’s outdoor music festival season has still yet to peak. With North Coast Music Festival approaching in early September, attendees will ride out the rest of their summer with a bang! This year’s sixth annual NCMF lineup is nothing but a testament to that. Known for their strong roots in electronic music, the bill has a mix of international names, as well as hometown heroes. But what makes NCMF stand out from other festivals such as Spring Awakening and Summerset is the wide range of genres branching from EDM, to Jam Bands and Alternative Rock.

Announced headliners include The Chemical Brothers, who closed out the festival’s inaugural edition in 2010. Electronic tier one acts include: Porter Robinson-Live, The Glitch Mob and Tycho – who will be making their first appearances to the festival this year. Tier one crowd favorite jam band and Alternative headliners have made it to this years roster such as: The Disco Biscuits, Widespread Panic, and Portugal. The Man.

Some tier two acts to look forward to include Gold Panda, a fix of classic techno with Green Velvet, and some psychedelic culture infused sounds from Shpongle.

Moving to the third tier, my excitement only grew, with additions of rare talents who have just began to breakthrough to the American festival culture scene. Goldfish, Slow Magic and Snails have been some of the favorite acts to see around festivals in summer 2015.

Attendees, some highlights not to miss this year include the “Heineken House” lounge featuring Chicago house DJs including DJ Heather, Moon Boots, Roy Davis JR, Ronn Carroll, Terry Hunter, and more that have been just announced! The fun doesn’t stop at the end of each day. NCMF has announced some epic official after parties to keep the night rolling until the morning! Kicking of Saturday right with Daft Rock– a Daft Punk cover show performed by the local favorite act Future Rock, along side members of Turbo Suit, Digital Tape Machine, and Spare Parts performing the music of LCD Sound System. Another local act that has impressed all near and far, The Main Squeeze, has an official afterparty for their Mind Your Head album release party. Looking for more? Knife Party will bring their ground shaking beats to The MID for a night you don’t want to miss. And that’s ONLY Friday! Saturday’s after parties have an even wider range to choose from.
