The Rakes Remixes

The Rakes split in October, and I never knew of them while they existed. It was a solid brit rock outfit, not my bag but catchy with a streak of originality. The best of their music was made into a great remix album worked over by some up and coming UK producers and released on Dim Mak Records in 2007. Here it is if you missed it the first time around like I did:

Open Book (Uncle Buck Remix)

My favorite on the album, from UK soundsquad Uncle Buck. They masterfully mix marching guitars, haunting vocals and breakneck beats into something special. Just youngins, they are some to watch, check them out!

Binary Love (Loving Hands Tim Goldsworthy Remix)

What’s the beef with DFA and what’s to become of Tim Goldsworthy? He’s probably just gone home to do what he’s done all along, tear asses on the dancefloor. But in February, Tim Goldsworthy – half of the DFA label and production team along with James Murphy – unexpectedly moved from the label’s New York base back to his original home country of England according to Resident Advisor. Goldsworthy himself offered a more nuanced version of events, explaining that his physical absence has nothing to do with his ownership or participation in DFA: “If that was the case then, well, Murphy’s never there, cause he’s always touring or in the studio, so that would mean he left, I don’t know, nine years ago or something..” Let’s just set their Facebook status to “It’s Complicated”’ (urb.com)

We Are All Animals (Statik Remix)

This melodic re-working from funky British DJ Statik is reminiscent of Indie favorites Bloc Party and TV On The Radio.

Filthy Dukes Society:

22 Grand Job (Filthy Dukes Society Remix)

This cheeky track is so obnoxiously British you wanna punch it in the teeth and buy it a lager.

Work, Work, Work (Weird Science Remix)

Weird Science is Blake Miller and Steve Aoki. They’ve been producing remixes for the past four years for the likes of Bloc Party, Snoop Dogg, Peaches, Young Love, Metro Station and more.
