While folks ranging from the Midwest to East coast don’t want to consider going outside with freezing temperatures and freakish blizzards, the deserts 0f the Southwest are getting a jump start on festival season with the 8th annual Gem & Jam Festival in Tucson, AZ (February 7th – 9th). Our friends at Euphonic Conceptions along with Infinite Music are drawing on the influx of people in town for one of the largest gem and crystal shows in the world. The festival literally mutates Tucson’s convention centers, hotels, and vacant lots into a crystalline matrix of creativity and inspiration. What could be better than top quality music surrounded by the planet’s most beautiful specimens?
This year’s performances include some of the best in the game and should prove for a memorable weekend. Boombox, The Motet, Purity Ring, and Mimosa hold top slots on the three nights. Be sure not to miss Kalya Scintilla, Bluetech, or Desert Dwellers either as they never disappoint. Gem & Jam vets and LiS favorites Thriftworks, Random Rab along with his live band, and Russ Liquid will be there. Last year, both Russ and Rab played late night shows, and could be among the late night schedule this year. Tons of West coast and bass love fill out the lineup with acts like Love & Light, Smash & Grab, Nico Luminous, Unlimited Aspect (Unlimited Gravity and Project Aspect), and Govinda.
Alongside the music, Gem & Jam is bringing together many of the best in the visionary art community as well, featuring live painters Andy Reed, Jonathan Solter, Jake Corbin, and workshops with Alex & Allyson Grey. This year’s Gem & Jam will feature some of the best jewelry makers, clothing, crystal, and accessory vendors. It’s hard to pick a favorite among a festival stacked like this. Browse crystals by day, and dance the night away with Lost in Sound at Gem & Jam Festival, February 7-9, 2014.
