Lotus will release two new separate EP’s on October 6th, Oil and Glass and Feather and Wood, gearing up for their Fall tour. With opening acts including RJD2, the Egg, Break Science and Big in Japan; Lotus is preparing for a tour even bigger than last year’s Hammerstrike tour. Lotus previewed a couple tracks off of their new albums at their annual festival, Summerdance . The first set on 8/29 included, “Grayrigg”, a new one off off Oil and Glass. The first song of their second night encore included “Marisol”, the opening track off Feather and Wood.

“Simian”-the first track released off of Oil and Glass-has a very melodic sound throughout. With a baseline that plucks along in a perfectly lackluster way and a guitar melody that you can almost mouth the words to; I almost hear remnants of an old Umphrey’s jam sound within this track. Starting off with their strength on guitar and transitioning into a slow, sleek dub drum/bassline accompanied by spacey, almost ominous hallway effects.
Feather on Wood(October 6th release)

“Marisol”, the initial track off of Feather and Wood begins with very minimal drum workings overlapped by long sliding guitar riffs and aquatic synth beats. It builds and builds, gathering more sounds together until it breaks into a slightly anti-climatic section that decrescendo’s back to the track’s original flowing feeling. It makes me imagine gliding through a lucid dream to nowhere special.
