Nicolas Jaar is an electronic music prodigy and multi-instrumentalist who at 21 produces elite beats and runs the Clown & Sunset label in NYC.. Born in NY, he grew up in Santiago, Chile, returning to the states as a teenager. Haunted by Mulatu Astatke and Erik Satie, he started to make music in 2004 at the age of 14.
The organic house and downtempo beats he creates stand out in their attention to detail and unique craftsmanship. He employs creative sound production techniques, recording eerie vocals and ambient sounds like the symphony of creaking doors in “Dubliners” below, stripping guitar strings and using an array of items in his percussion. Everything carries a bit of static and classical style; he recalls genres from other eras and mixes them with glitch effects and richly textured drums.
Still experimenting and honing his sound, these are the first evidences of an emerging talent that is sure to be an interesting and influential artist for years to come.
