Digital Rust has emerged as a force to be reckoned with this year. After he stole headlines at Lucidity Festival with a massive set showcasing powerful new material, we’ve been eagerly anticipating this release. It does not disappoint, offering three unique, well-produced bangers that could be integrated into glitch, dubstep, and hard hitting bass music sets.
Seething with energy, the tracks layer alien elements and build to shattering drops. The drums are simple but perfectly executed, the bass sounds new and brutal, growling in a demonic voice that commands us to dance. It is the glitching and manipulation of the bass that creates both the melody and rhythm here, making for a deep, gritty sound accented by ringing, metallic synths.
The title track “Dusk” and the included remix by Ratchet set the tone with huge, complex basslines that expand the possibilities of the low end. “Time Out Of Mind” is my favorite however, combining the best aspects of his style into a compelling wave of talking basses and crisp percussion.
He is definitely a producer to watch and book in 2014, as the quality of his work has been improving rapidly and is now impossible to ignore.
