Shanti – Interview & “Elementals” EP

Written By: Lauren Howard

Shanti
‘s new album Elementals was released November 6th through Mycelium Music. The album features Mycelium’s Oviod on the track “Pearlescent Matter“, a personal favorite. The layers of organic sounds are constructed beautifully and his exploration into the world of sound design and found sound production techniques are prevalent in this new release. The following interview with Shanti uncovers the inspiration for his new album.

My inspiration for this EP was influenced by the elements that surround us. Everyday, I embrace at least one of them, and I like to record my own samples. Putting the recordings into my music and manipulating the organic sounds is something that resonates with. Gives me a sense of “home” when I listen to my music.

How long have you been producing music?

I have only been releasing music for the last year and a half. I’ve been learning the programs I use for the last three to four years.

Who are your biggest musical inspirations?

Well… I have a lot, but as far as my “biggest” I would say Asa & Sorrow. They both make many styles but they always deliver feelings of bliss with their cinematic soundscapes. As far as my psychedelic inspirations go, I would like to say my “biggest” would have to be Aligning Minds. The melodies they produce are intimate and soulful. Some of the sounds they use tend to be some of the sounds I use, mostly similar chords and pads. Their deeper frequencies get me too, but keep in mind these are all just influences. I’m always working on curating my own sound.

Other than music, what are your hobbies?

I enjoy cloud gazing, drawing and working on my calligraphy.

That’s fun! Calligraphy is rare now a days. What was your highlight event this summer?

Probably being at Kinnection Campout with my love and enduring the sacred fire sweat lodge. It pushed my limits as a spirit and human. I was able to release and go through a metamorphosis process. Four hours of sweating at a temperate of 400 degrees was one of the best experiences of my life. Realizing my purpose all over again and obtaining new perspectives while communicating with old ancestors, was a blessing as well.

Kinnection Campout was my favorite event this summer as well! Is there anything else you would like to add before we end the interview?

I would like to say thank you to everyone for existing :::) and taking the time out of your day to listen. Also big ups to the Mycelium crew for having me express my self through their sonic portal.
Much love!
