Gonzo journalism is a style of “reporting” based on William Faulkner’s idea that the best fiction is far more true than any kind of journalism – and the best journalists have always known this. True gonzo reporting needs the talents of a master journalist, the eye of an artist/photographer and the heavy balls of an actor, because the writer must be a participant in the scene, while he’s writing it – or at least taping it, or even sketching it. Probably the closest analogy to the ideal would be a film director/producer who writes his own scripts, does his own camera work and somehow manages to film himself in action, as the protagonist or at least a main character. -Hunter S. Thompson
“I think we have all had the experience of losing ourselves in music. Where you are just taken away into the sound. And then where are you? Where are ‘YOU’? When you’re not there, that IS ultimate reality. That’s what we mean. It’s so beautiful; its all around us all the time, its available to us all the time.” -Lama Marut
How We Started
LostinSound.org began from scratch as a shared blog our crew used to show each other hot new tracks, musicians, DJs, artists and events. The site was a way for us to concentrate our interests, learn about the fresh music we thrive upon, and download the beats we mash up as DJs. During the 2009 festival run, we realized our common ambition to explore further and share the experience with our greater community.
Today, Lost in Sound has grown to be a forum for fresh news, reviews, events, free music, multimedia and most recently, the supreme supplier of Rage Essentials with the launch of our Lost in Sound Store. This is our latest effort to strengthen the community by featuring handmade art, jewelry, wearables, hoops, and party supplies created by you. Simply email a picture and description of your product to LostinSoundorg@gmail.com to inquire about selling with us.
We believe in raging responsibly, and spread the message through our bright red Use Your Head pins at festivals and events around the world.
