Portishead’s Machine Gun Shoots High

Trip Hop alumni Portishead published this track as the first single off the 2008 long awaited release ‘Third’ which ended a decade long hiatus from studio albums. This is a daily listened track for me, which penetrates to the core with a hypnotic beat thats the simplest of drum machine rhythms. For long time fans of Portishead, this is a remarkably different sound, yet retains the dark prolific vibe their known for. Beth Gibbons still maintains the bellowing vocals that seem to float around your head, while interjecting synths transport you to an epic sound scape thats one of a kind.

Three was a really weak album in my eyes. It had potential and some really ill hooks & whatnot but went absolutly nowhere. Songs just didn’t develop like I would expect Portishead jams to do.
